It seems such a long time since Orkney Arts and Crafts was fully functioning, but we are back in business this year.
Over the past two difficult years we have had some members leave us when they moved away from Orkney and new members joining. Whether previously signed up members or new-to-us, the same standard of work is expected and produced. In some ways the lock-down and following difficult time gave our members space to learn and grow in their craft and even develop skill in new artisan activity.
Following another successful weekend Craft-for-Christmas extravaganza in November last year and Orkney ‘re-opening’ to tourism including the cruise liners, we are pleased that all our events can now take place.
We have already held some well-attended craft fairs and now we are getting ready for ‘the big one’. The Town Hall room in the Kirkwall Community centre will see a flurry of activity on Monday 13th, and Tuesday 14th of June setting up for our 6 week summer exhibition. The exhibition will be opening on Wednesday 15th June at 9 a.m. It will be open daily except Sundays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m until Thursday 28th July.
As usual we will be exhibiting work from many different craft practitioners who put a great deal of effort and skill into their products. Not for nothing do we claim:- “ Our members produce quality hand-made items that have the designer touch.” It would be a shame to miss such a wonderful opportunity to find the perfect gift, treat or holiday memento. See you there?
