Art, Print & Photography

Orkney is a place of wide vistas; the clear air and wonderful colours make it a perfect setting for artists and photographers. There is plenty of scope for personal preferences, and some artists concentrate on the natural landscape in all its varied seasons, while others look to the wildlife, particularly the birds, and yet others look to the historic and prehistoric past for inspiration.

Our artists work in different media: paint, coloured pencil, embroidery, engraving, felt, and photography. One artist produces delicate watercolours on T-bags! Another works mainly in found and natural objects, taking an artistic approach to beach-combing. Art and photographs are available as originals, prints, or printed onto a large variety of products, from cards and canvases to mugs, coasters, placemats, T-shirts, key-rings or pens. Some members also paint or print their own designs onto fabrics and other materials.
