Woolly Wally & Rinansay Weavings

Needle felted and hand woven art, models and textile made from North Ronaldsay Wool and ethically sourced fibres
Helen Galland

Woolly Wally produce “ewe”nique needle felted sheep characters, and other animals all made from the wool of rare and traditional breeds of British sheep, including the North Ronaldsay where we are now based.  Products range from small novelty gifts through to large models, our original “Shess”-Sets and one-off 3D felt pictures. Commissions taken. Wool from your own flock can be used.  Email your requirements.  We have an online shop in our website.

Woolly Wally received funding to learn upholstery as part of a development plan, and aims to use all the materials from our local wool mill which specialises in processing the fleeces of the native rare seaweed eating North Ronaldsay sheep.

I got on a course with Manchesters Ministry of Upholstery taught by TV personality Anthony Devine (it wasn’t due to be him but his colleague caught Covid a few days before the workshop!!)

The end result is a one of a kind Cocktail chair made with personally printed cotton fabric (featuring all real the Woolly Wallies both past and present) and stuffed in part with North Ronaldsay sheep hair and wool.

Now I am in the process of deconstructing second hand stools to reupholster in North Ronaldsay Wool!

I am still felting as well as weaving – a selection will be available from my Folksy Shop – woollywally. You can now follow me on Instagram (I am getting less fearful of tech…) at Thewoollywally or on Facebook at Woolly-wally.
