A Yarn from North Ronaldsay Ltd.

North Ronaldsay’s native sheep, a rare breed thought to date back as far as the Neolithic age, provide the raw fleece which Jane processes into felt, rovings, and knitting yarns at the Mini Mill on the Island. The sheep, one of the smallest and hardiest breeds in Britain, live on the foreshore of the island on a diet of seaweed.

Their wool is as unique as the sheep themselves ranging in colour from white through to black with varying shades of fawn and moorit inbetween. Jane’s products preserve the natural colour of the wool so you can be sure you are purchasing not just a unique piece of Orkney but also helping to preserve this ancient flock.
